System 7 was developed for Macs that used the Motorola 680x0 line of processors, but was ported to the PowerPC after Apple adopted the new processor in 1994 with the introduction of the Power Macintosh. With the release of version 7.6 in 1997, Apple officially renamed the operating system "Mac OS", a name that had first appeared on System 7.5.1's boot screen. Features added with the System 7 release included virtual memory, personal file sharing, QuickTime, QuickDraw 3D, and an improved user interface. Current for more than six years, System 7 was the longest-lived major version series of the classic Macintosh operating system (to date, only Mac OS X had a longer lifespan).

It was introduced on May 13, 1991, by Apple Computer It succeeded System 6, and was the main Macintosh operating system until it was succeeded by Mac OS 8 in 1997. Tripp-Lite had much superior instructions than what came with this unit.System 7, codenamed "Big Bang", and also known as Mac OS 7, is a graphical user interface-based operating system for Macintosh computers and is part of the classic Mac OS series of operating systems. Overall Review: I found other companies selling both the same and nearly-identical docking stations (one with eSATA and USB ports in front for example) and/or a different device, such as Tripp-Lite, that used the same software package, called AI-OTB (one touch backup). You most likely don't want to bend a/o break one of those pins! Also, be careful lining up those 40-pin connectors on PATA drives to the female connection in the tray you're essentially doing it blind because you can't see whether the pins are lined up correctly or not. The application is great for setting it up and establishing parameters, including the one-touch button backup feature. I use my own preferred backup software anyhow. Instructions are marginal, but I found better instructions online. I had an old USB 2.0 gadget for the same purpose, but wanted something that would fully utilize the speed of the PATA drives.Ĭons: Minor, but worth noting: the software package (downloaded via a link shown on the box) is very rudimentary but it is adequate. Includes power supply and USB 3.0 cable, which is heavy-gauge. Having one PATA slot and one SATA slot makes it ideal for the purpose. Pros: Device serves a purpose for me I have 3 large-capacity (for PATA) drives I wanted to be able to use for backups.
